Battling Hyperthyroidism: Over-active Thyroid

So, I have just recently been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism with an overactive thyroid along with other millions of young and older women who suffer from it.

What is Hyperthyroidism?

It is a type of autoimmune disease that causes the thyroid gland to produce too much thyroid hormones. When thyroid hormones are too high, energy metabolism will speed up, causing the body to burn through nutrients too quickly. This is also why I lose a lot of weight pretty quick. Yes, I had been trying to lose weight, but hadn’t realised how much I’d lost. 😄

So, what symptoms did I have?

I hadn’t felt “right” for a little while, but I could never put my finger on what the problem was. The sign and symptoms of this disease is very challenging, I have the worst mood swings like irritability, I get mad so quick, very sensitive, emotional liability, nervousness, restlessness, worrying, I’m happy but feeling empty inside. And I also get hot flushes, sweating especially at night, hair fall out, etc. to name a few…

I also developed heart palpitations or irregular heartbeat, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia). Staff nurse, doctors are always concerned to how fast is my heartbeat until they rule out the disease (over-active thyroid).

Few years ago, I was diagnosed with 5.5mm pituitary brain tumor. I had a lot of blood test, MRI’s and thanks god after year of treatments, It’s all better now, the tumor shrunk, I stopped the medication and now, just follow ups and maintaining my levels. 🙏🏻☺️

I am going to start my thyroid treatment in a few days. My Endocrinologist prescribed me with beta blockers for my heart rate (tachycardia), new medication for my thyroid hormones. She also advised I should not be even trying to get pregnant until thyroid levels are improved and symptoms better controlled. ☹️ Speaking of getting pregnant, For some people who really knew me, they know our struggle in trying to get pregnant. My husband and I didn’t even know that my hormones are out of wack until I get all these symptoms and finally, getting it controlled. 🙏🏻 I also hope another takes in to account how insensitive an innocent question about having kids may be. My stomach cringes when I hear “When are you going to work on having kids?” “Why you don’t have baby yet” To tell you honestly, It’s makes my heartbeat fast and it makes me annoyed. You never know what a man, woman or couple have dealt with or are actively coping with. You have no Idea. #DontAsk

Anyhow, I have been doing a lot of research to heal myself in holistic way, thyroid diet. I also started cutting out sugar and start my gluten free diet. ☺️

I am lucky cause Im living here in America. Getting health care treatment is not hard unlike in other countries. We have the best doctors in the world who always follow up with your health. Advance healthcare technologies etc.

Life is good! I know everything will be fine. (I will be fine) I just encourage myself to keep going, be strong and look after myself as best as I can. Even if that means some nights going to bed really early and try to eat healthy foods everyday. Lol! Love yourself before it takes its toll in your body. ❤️
